𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱: 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿

#Diabetes #mellitus is a chronic condition that occurs when blood sugar (glucose) levels remain too high due to the body’s inability to produce or effectively use insulin. Globally, over 537 million adults live with diabetes, and projections estimate a rise to 643 million by 2030 (Cleveland Clinic, 2025). In #Nigeria, the burden is rising, with growing prevalence among adolescents and young adults, yet awareness and knowledge remain limited – as only 25.2% of university students in a recent study showed good knowledge of diabetes (Oroka 𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘭., 2023).

Recent findings from Akwa Ibom State show that #PeopleLivingWithDiabetes frequently experience pain, discomfort, and anxiety, affecting their quality of life. These insights stress the importance of not just clinical care, but also #PsychosocialSupport and #CommunityBasedAwarenessCampaigns (Jackson 𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘭., 2023).

At #DatametricsAssociatesLimited, we join the global community to mark #DiabetesWeek (June 9–15, 2025) – a dedicated time to #RaiseAwareness, amplify lived experiences, and spotlight the importance of regular #diabetes health checks. These checks – covering blood sugar, heart, kidneys, eyes, and feet – are essential in identifying early signs of complications and ensuring timely care.

#PublicHealthProfessionals need to work together to bridge the knowledge gaps, tackle misinformation, and promote accessible, respectful care for people living with or at risk of diabetes.

This week, we echo the call for all to:
🎯 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 – 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄.
