World Obesity Day celebrated annually calls attention to the urgent need for systemic changes in healthcare, food production, urban planning, and policymaking to combat the rising obesity epidemic.
Obesity has tripled globally since 1975, with over one billion people now affected (NCD-RisC, 2024). Additionally, 890 million adults and 160 million children and adolescents aged 5โ19 are living with obesity globally (WHO, 2024).
Obesity increases the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer (World Obesity Federation, 2024).
