Today, June 19, #DatametricsAssociatesLimited joins the world in commemorating #WorldSickleCellDay2025, a day set aside to raise awareness about one of the worldโs most prevalent inherited blood disorders.
The #theme for this year, โ๐๐น๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป, ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐: ๐๐บ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ณ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐น๐ณ-๐๐ฑ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐โ, calls for collective engagement and strengthened community voices in advocating for equitable care and support systems for people living with sickle cell disease.
#SickleCellDisease (SCD) affects over 300,000 newborns annually, and about 5% of the global population carries the gene for haemoglobin disorders, including SCD and thalassaemia (WHO, 2025).
Despite the high burden, especially in low- and middle-income countries, progress in prevention and management through stakeholder engagement and health system strengthening offers hope for #BetterOutcomes (Isa ๐ฆ๐ต ๐ข๐ญ., 2023).
In #Nigeria, experiences of young people with #SCD reveal both the resilience of affected individuals and the gaps in psychosocial and academic support. A recent study among undergraduates highlights the pressing need for increased awareness, inclusive healthcare access, and more responsive community support to enhance quality of life and academic achievement (Adeleke ๐ฆ๐ต ๐ข๐ญ., 2024).
At #Datametrics, we believe in evidence-based advocacy and public health research that amplify community voices and shape policy. On this #WorldSickleCellDay, we reaffirm our commitment to data-driven action, systems-level collaboration, and public engagement in addressing #HaemoglobinDisorders.
