Today, June 19, Datametrics Associates Limited joins the world in commemorating World Sickle Cell Day 2025, a day set aside to raise awareness about one of the worldโ€™s most prevalent inherited blood disorders.

The theme for this year, โ€œ๐—š๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป, ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—œ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜: ๐—˜๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—–๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—˜๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ณ-๐—”๐—ฑ๐˜ƒ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜†โ€, calls for collective engagement and strengthened community voices in advocating for equitable care and support systems for people living with sickle cell disease.

Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) affects over 300,000 newborns annually, and about 5% of the global population carries the gene for haemoglobin disorders, including SCD and thalassaemia (WHO, 2025).

Despite the high burden, especially in low- and middle-income countries, progress in prevention and management through stakeholder engagement and health system strengthening offers hope for Better Outcomes (Isa ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต ๐˜ข๐˜ญ., 2023).

In Nigeria, experiences of young people with SCD reveal both the resilience of affected individuals and the gaps in psychosocial and academic support. A recent study among undergraduates highlights the pressing need for increased awareness, inclusive healthcare access, and more responsive community support to enhance quality of life and academic achievement (Adeleke ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต ๐˜ข๐˜ญ., 2024).

At Datametrics, we believe in evidence-based advocacy and public health research that amplify community voices and shape policy. On this World Sickle Cell Day, we reaffirm our commitment to data-driven action, systems-level collaboration, and public engagement in addressing Haemoglobin Disorders.
