Brain Tumors are among the deadliest neurological disorders affecting both adults and children. They account for 85-90% of all primary central nervous system #cancers, with an estimated 308,102 new global cases in 2020 alone (PACE Hospitals, 2025).
In Sub Saharan Africa, glioma (NOS), medulloblastoma, and craniopharyngioma are the most common pediatric brain tumors, with critical regional variations across South, Central, and Western SSA, including Nigeria (Nyalundja 𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘭., 2024).
Raising Awareness is essential to prompt early detection and timely intervention. While symptoms vary, common warning signs include persistent headaches, seizures, speech & coordination difficulties, and behavioral changes. If left untreated, even benign tumors can become life-threatening (Mayo Clinic, 2025).
Diagnostic Advances and Evolving Imaging Techniques – such as MRI, CT, and PET – offer powerful tools to identify and track these complex growths (Sailunaz 𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘭., 2024). Despite these strides, Africa still grapples with data scarcity, late diagnosis, and limited access to neuro-oncology services.
This month, Datametrics joins the global community in observing World Brain Tumor Day 2025 – a day dedicated to raising awareness about brain tumors, advancing public understanding, and encouraging early diagnosis and prevention. Established by Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe e.V. in 2000, this annual event reflects the core message that “𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦” (PACE Hospitals, 2025)
At Datametrics, we recognize the need for Policy Focused Research, Awareness Campaigns, and Multisectoral Collaboration to improve Brain Tumor Outcomes across Nigeria and Beyond.
