Datametrics led the baseline evaluation of ECHO Gender Based Violence Intervention in Ngala LGA in Borno State, Nigeria. The baseline evaluation was conducted in three IDP camps and the host community in Ngala LGA. A total of 405 respondents were interviewed during the study, comprising 122 (30.1%) males, and 28(69.9%) females.
Rape (91.6%), sexual assault (71.4%), and forced marriage (42.1%) were the three top forms of GBV identified by respondents. About 23.4% experienced or know someone who experienced GBV in the last six months. Furthermore, 4 out of 17 females with a disability experienced or know someone who experienced GBV in the last six months. On the possibility of experiencing GBV from their partner, 15(12.3%) of male respondents and 64(22.6%) of female respondents reported being worried that they may experience GBV from their partner.
The baseline evaluation identified poor awareness among community members and limited access to GBV services as the most important factors increasing the menace of GBV in the communities.
