Datametrics led the evaluation of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Post Abortion Care Curriculum Implementation in FCT, Edo, Enugu, Oyo, Niger, Borno, and Kano States Nigeria.

The study is based on qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Specific approaches included literature and desk reviews, primary data collection through questionnaire administration, Focus Group Discussion, and In-Depth Interviews.

A total of 1869 practicing nurses and midwives were interviewed across the seven States. Of these, 72.8% had ever provided PAC services, with 65.0% reporting PAC provision less than 6 months ago. Overall, 82.3% reported that they provide PAC services in their facilities. Ninety-five (95%) claimed that their facilities have an adequate area available to perform uterine evacuation, and 94% reported that their facilities have an operating room equipped to provide timely emergency care to abortion patients with complications. Two-thirds (62.2%) of the facilities reported that they rarely have a shortage of PAC commodities at facilities. Almost half of the participants reported that they provide counseling before and after only (45.4%), while 42.5% reported that they offer counseling before, during, and after. About half (48.1%) of the facilities reported that they rarely discharge their PAC patients without obtaining the contraceptive of their choice, while 30.9% reported that they never discharge their patients without contraceptives.

This study provided insight into PAC curriculum delivery in Nigeria and identified existing challenges and recommendations to mitigate them
